What Does “How to Grow Your Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations Company? | Lead Generation Strategies” Talk About?
This episode of the James Dooley Podcast features James Dooley and Kasra Dash breaking down the most effective growth strategies for kitchen and bathroom renovation companies. The conversation opens by exploring the psychology behind renovation decisions, noting that homeowners typically upgrade out of desire rather than necessity, which makes visual marketing particularly powerful. The hosts explain how platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are ideal for showcasing before-and-after transformations that trigger emotional buying decisions and generate demand among people who weren't even actively searching.
The episode then moves into a detailed discussion of lead generation, with both hosts recommending that renovation business owners partner with two or three lead generation companies simultaneously. They highlight FatRank's performance-based model, which only charges clients after a lead converts into a paying customer, and contrast this with competitors like Bark and Checkatrade. The hosts emphasise setting clear KPIs to ensure marketing spend is generating real profit.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to SEO, which Kasra Dash argues is the single most important long-term play for renovation businesses. He explains that SEO goes far beyond ranking a website, encompassing brand reputation management, E-E-A-T trust signals, and crucially, ranking images in Google search results. He points out that searches for terms like kitchen designs or bathroom ideas now surface image carousels directly on Google, meaning businesses that rank their visual assets can win jobs worth tens of thousands of pounds over competitors who neglect this tactic.
“SEO is a lot more than content and links. It's brand reputation management. It could be the difference between winning and losing a £40,000 or £50,000 job purely because your branding online is shocking.”
— Kasra Dash

What Are the Key Takeaways From “How to Grow Your Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations Company? | Lead Generation Strategies”?
Here are the key points discussed in this episode:
- Kitchen and bathroom renovation decisions are driven by desire rather than necessity, making emotionally resonant visual content on social media a highly effective demand generation tool.
- Partnering with performance-based lead generation companies like FatRank removes upfront financial risk because payment is only required after a lead converts into a paying customer.
- SEO is not just a traffic strategy but a brand reputation tool, and homeowners routinely compare online reviews, sentiment, and case studies before choosing a renovation contractor.
- Ranking images in Google search results is a critical and often overlooked tactic, since searches for terms like kitchen designs or bathroom ideas already surface image carousels without users needing to click the images tab.
- A combined strategy of short-term lead generation partnerships and long-term SEO investment is the most reliable path to consistent, scalable growth for renovation businesses.
“The major play is teaming up with two or three lead generation companies, definitely trying out FatRank.com because it's performance based and a no brainer if you're accepted, and doing SEO.”

Is “How to Grow Your Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations Company? | Lead Generation Strategies” Worth Listening To?
This episode is worth listening to because it goes beyond generic marketing advice and addresses the specific consumer psychology that drives kitchen and bathroom renovation purchases. The insight that these are want-based rather than need-based decisions fundamentally shapes the marketing approach, and the hosts translate this into concrete channel recommendations including Meta ads, YouTube, and image-heavy SEO rather than leaving listeners with vague suggestions. The discussion on image ranking alone, explaining that Google surfaces visual results for searches like kitchen ideas without users even needing to visit the images tab, is a genuinely actionable tactic that many business owners overlook entirely.
The episode is also valuable because it honestly addresses a common frustration among renovation business owners who feel they have already tried SEO without results. Kasra Dash acknowledges this directly and reframes SEO as a long-term investment while offering a practical short-term alternative through performance-based lead generation. The combination of zero-risk lead acquisition in the short term and trust-building SEO in the long term gives listeners a phased roadmap rather than an all-or-nothing recommendation, making the advice immediately applicable regardless of where a business currently sits in its growth journey.

What Are Listeners Saying About This Episode?
“The section on image SEO genuinely changed how I think about our marketing. I had no idea that searches for kitchen designs pull up image results without users even clicking the images tab. We've already started optimising our project photos based on this advice.”
“Really practical episode. The point about renovation being a want rather than a need explains so much about why our paid ads weren't converting well before we started using before-and-after content. Clear, specific, and no fluff.”
“I appreciated that Kasra directly acknowledged the frustration of spending money on SEO agencies that deliver nothing. The advice to use performance-based lead gen in the short term while building SEO long term gives you a realistic roadmap, not just theory.”

Kasra Dash: So if I have a kitchen and bathroom renovation company and I want a consistent flow of inquiries what do you recommend.
James Dooley: So with regards to renovations of kitchens and bathrooms a lot of the time people don't need to renovate it, it's just they're choosing to upgrade or improve aesthetically how it looks. It's not like the cupboards are falling down and they've waited that long so because it is very aesthetic and looking at the visuals and they're going that kitchen looks really nice or I really want a new bathroom, it's not that they need it, it's that they want it. So because of that I think social media does a massive play in this and I think Facebook ads and Meta ads like Instagram ads, even YouTube ads, can work really well because you can show the before and the after. If someone can resonate with that before and after and go mine looks like that before picture and this after picture looks amazing, at that point they're saying I want that. So they might not physically be going out searching. Some might be searching as well but a lot of people are looking at the visuals of before and afters and I think the images and the videos of what business owners can get that are running a kitchen or bathroom renovation company is key in my opinion so social media would be something I would certainly be looking at scaling out and Facebook ads or social media ads would be something.
Kasra Dash: What's your thoughts on using a lead generation company to generate your kitchen and bathroom renovation leads.
James Dooley: Yeah definitely so I think that's one of the biggest plays that I would be doing so going out to two or three different lead generation companies. Obviously you do have FatRank where we generate you leads and you don't need to pay a single penny until you've actually converted that lead into a paying customer so I think that if you want to do lead generation go fill out the form down below, the link will be there. One thing that I will say is that we don't actually take on everybody so we want to make certain that you're the right fit. We are performance based so unlike other lead generation companies we need to make certain that the company we're partnering with has a good reputation online, they don't have loads of two star reviews because it's not going to work for us. Whereas if you think you tick all the boxes fill in the form and see if we do deal with you. Then you've got other lead generation companies so you've got Bark, you've got Checkatrade. What I recommend doing is setting up KPIs. You want to make certain that if you're spending X amount you're getting profit on the actual investment. But away from lead generation what do you think to SEO.
Kasra Dash: So you mentioned there heading over to FatRank.com to fill in the form to see whether you qualify but in that you mentioned we check to see whether they qualify and one of the biggest parts of what we're checking is their SEO. It's not just about SEO for generating leads for them to grow their bathroom and renovation company, it's also there for brand reputation management. How good do they look online. Have they got a positive sentiment. If two companies are side by side and they're looking to renovate your kitchen and they're both similar on price and they start to Google James Dooley kitchen renovation and Kasra Dash kitchen renovation, who are they going to choose. The one with the most testimonials, the one with more five star reviews, the one with the case studies they like. That's what people choose. SEO is a major play not just for generating leads, it's a long term investment for you to look good online. So I would be saying spend some money to improve within SEO. In the industry they call it E-E-A-T. Improve trust signals online, not just for Google algorithms but for users. And then you can generate SEO leads and the holy grail is generating your own leads in house so SEO is a major play.
James Dooley: Is there anything else you'd be looking to do or is that the main one.
Kasra Dash: For me the major play is teaming up with two or three lead generation companies, definitely trying out FatRank.com because it's performance based and a no brainer if you're accepted, and doing SEO. Paid ads could work, the issue is they can become expensive. The emphasis on SEO isn't enough in this video because SEO is not just ranking your website higher, it's also ranking your images higher. In this space a lot of people flick to the images tab and search blue kitchens and if you're not ranking for blue kitchens but your competitors are, they'll go with your competitor. Try and rank your images also. On that when you say kitchen designs or kitchen ideas or bathroom ideas or bathroom designs, they don't even need to click the image tab. Type kitchen designs, loads of images show up at the top because Google understands the user wants visuals. Same with videos. They might go to the Google video tab or search YouTube which is the second largest search engine. SEO is a lot more than content and links. It's brand reputation management. It could be the difference between winning and losing a £40,000 or £50,000 job purely because your branding online is shocking. Some people don't understand that and focus only on impressions and traffic but SEO is far more than that. For me probably the number one major play is SEO because it is long term. If someone's watching this and they are a business owner of a kitchen or bathroom renovation company they might say I've tried SEO, I've gone to six SEO agencies, none of them have generated trust, none have improved impressions or traffic. SEO is a long term investment, it takes time. In the short term, team up with the right lead generation companies. That would be my major play in this.
James Dooley: Definitely and the link is down below so if you want to apply head over to FatRank.com or click the link down below and we will get back to you.
